How to Choose the Right Bible Reading Plan for Your Schedule

By Jacob Jones

Reading the Bible consistently is a goal for many believers, but often our schedules get in the way. The key isn’t finding more hours in the day—it’s matching your reading plan to the time you actually have.

Assess Your Reality

Before you pick a plan, look at your calendar. Be honest. Do you really have 45 minutes every morning? Or is 15 minutes during your commute more realistic?

There is no “holy” amount of time.

“The best Bible reading plan is the one you will actually do.”

Types of Plans by Time

5-10 Minutes

If you’re short on time, focus on quality over quantity.

  • Proverbs Monthly: Read one chapter of Proverbs corresponding to the day of the month.
  • New Testament Chapter: Read one chapter of the NT daily.

15-20 Minutes

This is the “sweet spot” for many.

  • One Year Bible: Usually involves an OT passage, NT passage, Psalm, and Proverb.
  • Chronological Plan: Read through the Bible in the order events happened.

30+ Minutes

For deep study.

  • McCheyne Plan: Read 4 chapters daily from different parts of Scripture.
  • Inductive Study: Pick a book and move slowly, asking specific questions of the text.

Using Our Generator

Our tool was built to solve this exact problem. You can input:

  1. Your available time (e.g., “15 minutes”)
  2. Your focus (e.g., “Gospels”)
  3. Your pace

And we’ll generate a schedule that fits you.

Don’t let guilt over a busy schedule keep you from the Word. Start small, be consistent, and watch your love for Scripture grow.
