5 Tips for Staying Consistent with Your Bible Reading
By Bible Plan Generator Team
We’ve all been there. January 1st starts strong, but by February, the Bible is gathering dust on the nightstand. Consistency is the hardest part of spiritual discipline.
Here are 5 practical tips to help you stay the course this year.
1. Anchor It to an Existing Habit
Don’t just say “I’ll read today.” Say, “I’ll read after I pour my coffee” or “before I check my phone.” Anchoring creates a mental trigger.
2. Prepare the Night Before
Decision fatigue is real. If you have to find your Bible, find a pen, and decide what to read every morning, you’re less likely to do it. Set everything out the night before.
3. Don’t Play “Catch Up”
This is the #1 plan killer. You miss three days, so you try to read four days’ worth at once. You get overwhelmed and quit. Rule: If you miss a day, just read today’s reading. Catch up later on a free Sunday, or just skip it. Consistency > Perfection.
4. Find a Community
Reading with others adds accountability. It can be a spouse, a friend, or a small group. Even just texting “Done!” to a friend can keep you on track.
5. Use a Tracker
There is a psychological satisfaction in checking a box. Our app provides a visual progress bar that “fills up” as you read. Seeing that streak grow is a powerful motivator.
Remember, the goal isn’t a checked box—it’s a changed heart. But sometimes, the checked box is the tool that gets your heart in the right place to be changed.
